The OSU Center for Small Farms & Community Food Systems advances sustainable and organic agriculture, community food systems, and economic progress for Oregon’s small farmers and ranchers.
We do this through applied research, education and technical assistance, and ongoing engagement with producers, nonprofits, businesses, public agencies, and community organizations working to build more resilient, equitable food systems.
During the webinar we will provide an overview of the Center, what we do and how we do it.

Lauren Gwin, Associate Director and the Extension Community Food Systems Specialist
Dr. Lauren Gwin is an Associate Professor in the Crop & Soil Science Department; Extension Community Food Systems Specialist; and Associate Director of the Center for Small Farms & Community Food Systems at Oregon State University.
Her work focuses on public policy and regulations, local and regional food systems infrastructure, small farm viability, and sustainable, equitable, and community-driven food system development.
Lauren is a founding member and serves on the Leadership Committee of the Oregon Community Food Systems Network.
Nick Andrews, Organic Extension Specialist
Nick Andrews joined OSU Extension in 2005. Since January 2020 he has served statewide as an Organic Vegetable Extension agent within the OSU Center for Small Farms & Community Food Systems.
Before 2005, Nick was an organic inspector with Oregon Tilth, orchard consultant in Hood River, and vegetable entomologist with the UK Extension Service.
His work focuses on organic vegetable production, cover crops, nutrient management, crop modeling and insect pest management.
Amy Garrett, Small Farms Extension, Founder and Director of Dry Farming Collaborative
Amy is an Associate Professor of Practice and has been working with OSU Extension Small Farms Program in the Southern Willamette Valley since 2011.
In recent years, drought mitigation tools and strategies for growing with little or no irrigation have become the focus of her work. Amy initiated the OSU Dry Farming Project in 2014, and founded the Dry Farming Collaborative in 2016 which has blossomed into a multifaceted participatory climate adaptation research project engaging growers globally.
